Fourth lecture about Power System - educate Harmonics and voltage fluctuation

In this lecture we'll know more of Terminology :

 Voltage fluctuation :

Rapid change in voltage within limits of voltage magnitude (0.95 to 1.05) of nominal 

value of voltage .

Causes :

ARC furnaces - Welders .

Effective :

• Flicker : change in light , occur at frequency 6:8 HZ .

• people headache  and stressed .

• malfunction : for sensitive equipment .

Prevent it :

By using "SVC" that control in voltage fluctuation frequency by controlling in the 

reactive power .

fourier theorem :

Distorted voltage or current wave analysis into sin wave of the fundamental 

frequency  50 HZ and other sin wave with another frequency , the non-fundamental 

called V-I harmonic .

Harmonics sources :

Converter - Transformer - ARC Furnaces - Welder - UPS - Electronic device - non linear 

 loads - TCR .

Effects of harmonics :

Heating wire - losses - damage of equipment - error in measurement devices .

Harmonic elimination method  :

• Using passive or active filter .

• Isolating source of harmonics .

• Using special transformer -  delta connected transformer .

• Injection of harmonic .
